Pair of flower picks representing owls by Jean-Claude Monange towards the end of the 70s. These are salt stoneware, an old technique allowing vitrification to replace enamelling. Salt is thrown into the kiln during the single firing of the stoneware, it then transforms into sodium and forms a thin layer of glaze on the pieces heated to 1300 degrees.

Jean-Claude Monange is still active and lives in Brittany.

(An accident on the nose of one and a regluing on the other, see photos details). H: 29 and 30 cm
